LAHORE, Aug 17: Punjab police on Wednesday decided to deploy over 100,000 men to maintain peace on the forthcoming local body election.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the senior police officers presided by Punjab IGP Ziaul Hasan.
The meeting was told that foolproof arrangements had been made to control the law and order situation.
The IGP told the meeting that he would not tolerate any violation of the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Patrol and plainclothesmen would also be deputed at sensitive places and the polling stations.
The meeting was told that the staff on election duty would be provided extra security. More vehicles and other facilities have been put at the disposal of the staff.
The IGP directed the DIGs to head control rooms in person set up in their jurisdictions to coordinate the efforts to maintain peace.
He said a main control room set up at the Central Police Office, Lahore, would supervise all other control rooms.
