KARACHI: TV channel’s petition rejected

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 17: The Sindh High Court rejected on Wednesday a television channel’s plea for a restraint order against transmission of a talk show by another channel.

M/s Independent Media Corporation (Pvt) Limited claimed that they had a copyright on ‘Begum Nawazish Ali’, a programme featuring interviews with famous personalities hosted by Ali Salim, who has been in their contractual employment.

M/s Recorder Television Network (Pvt) Limited submitted through Advocate Abid S. Zuberi that the show was exclusively produced by them. There is no copyright in an idea or concept.

The idea was conceived by host Salim Ali, who is to play the character of Begum Nawazish, as a freelance after quitting his employment and entering an ‘engagement agreement’ with their channel, ‘AAJ’. The lawyer said the plaintiff channel had no actionable right to sue or seek an interim injunction.
