KARACHI: 2 acquitted in murder case

KARACHI, Aug 16: An anti-terrorism court acquitted on Tuesday two accused in the killing case of three policemen. Judge Aley Maqbool Rizvi of the ATC-1 exonerated accused Abul Fayyaz and Mohammed Yousuf from charges on their acquittal application, filed under Section 265-K of the CrPC.

The two applicants, who were earlier declared absconding accused, were tried for killing the police official during a shootout in July 1998 within the limits of the Ibrahim Haideri police.

Earlier on June 11, 1999, the then judge of the same court had condemned four Haqqiqi workers — Muhammed Hashim, Muhammed Saleem, Mustafeez and Siddique alias Mota Ganja — to death in the instant case.

However, the Sindh High court set aside the judgment of the trial court acquitting the four Haqiqi men. Then the state moved an appeal against the SHC judgment before the Supreme Court, which dismissed the appeal and upheld the high court verdict.
