KARACHI: Regime product of electoral fraud: PPP

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 16: The Pakistan People’s Party on Tuesday alleged that all major characters of the present regime, including Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and their chief ministers were the products of “electoral frauds”, right from a referendum to the 2004 by-elections of Attock and Tharparker.

This was stated by the Opposition leader in Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro, PPP Karachi President Rashid Rabbani and MNA Sherry Rahman while addressing a corner meeting of the Awam Dost Panel at Memon Goth in Malir.

They said those who were products of the worst electoral and ballot frauds were using all means including the state machinery to hijack the local body elections. However, they vowed to fight against every form of pre- and post- polling riggings with the support of democratic forces.

Mr Khuhro and Ms Rehman said the PPP leadership and workers were fighting a battle for the rights of the masses by participating in the local body elections.

They appealed to the people to vote for genuine representatives instead of the henchmen of politicians nurtured by the military regime.

They said the PPP was the only liberal mainstream political force in the country that could unite the federation and rid the country of the murderous fruits of ethnicity, religious extremism, and the jackboots of military dictators.

The appealed to supporters of the Awam Dost panel to keep away from the policies of terror and militancy and remember that they were heirs to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s tradition of, and under the leadership of Ms Benazir Bhutto’s, enlightened politics.

The PPP leaders further said the forces, which had robbed the Karachi of its peace were out again to hijack it, but all democratic and peace-loving people of Karachi would defeat such elements in the local bodies elections.

Thousands of people from Memon Goth and adjoining villages attended the meeting.
