FAISALABAD, Aug 15: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) started their campaign on a winning note when they edged out formidable Pakistan Navy 1-0 in the opening match of Group-1 of First National Football Challenge Cup 2005 (Stage-II) at Panther Sports Ground on Monday.
KRL were the first to settle down and made several moves through strikers Allah Nawaz and Qadeer Ahmed. From one of the moves between two former international players produced the only goal of the play in the 18th minute.
Winger Qadeer shimmied down the right flank and cut the ball across the area. Skipper Allah Nawaz rose above everybody to head the ball home. KRL led 1-0 at recess.
Navy went all out in quest of equaliser with several dangerous inroads but their frontline players Rana Zahir Ahmed and Muhammad Basarat were not able to show proper shootings.
