‘Political parties told to file account statement’

By Our Correspondent

ISLAMABAD, Aug 15: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar on Monday reminded the political parties to file their statement of accounts for financial year 2004-05 by Aug 29, 2005.

Under Article 13 of the Political Parties Order (PPO) 2002, every political party is required to submit its financial statements within 60 days after the close of each financial year.

Any political party which fails to submit its statement of accounts will not be eligible to obtain election symbol to contest the 2007 general elections for the national and provincial assemblies, the CEC warned.

The consolidated statement of accounts, the duly audited by a chartered accountant, should consist of the annual income and expenses, the source of party’s funds and its assets and liabilities.

In addition, the statement should contain the certificated signature of the leader of the party endorsement that no funds from any source prohibited under PPO 2002 were received by the party and that the statement contains an accurate financial position of the party.
