QUETTA, Aug 15: The railway track linking Quetta with the rest of the country was blown up near Mach early on Monday morning moments before the Chiltan Express from Lahore was to pass through there on way to Quetta.
“Some people planted explosive material on the tracks and exploded it,” railway authorities said. They said that around two feet of the tracks were blown up.
Traffic was restored after about five hours later through an alternative track.
On Sunday, two policemen and another person were injured in a cycle-bomb explosion on Sariab Road and a rocket was fired at the family home of federal minister Zubaida Jalal in Mand area.
A gas pipeline was blown up near Killi Khajak in Sibi on Monday afternoon, disrupting supply to various villages. Sui Southern Gas Company officials stopped supply through the pipeline from Sibi.
At least nine bombs exploded in Quetta, Mach, Kohlu and Khuzdar areas and around two dozen rockets were fired at Frontier Corps checkpoints in the province on Sunday.
Ms Jalal was present in her house when the rocket exploded late in the night, damaging walls, sources said. Two rockets exploded near a Frontier Corps checkpoint.
At least four bombs exploded in the provincial capital despite strict security measures taken for the Independence Day.
The first explosion occurred late in the evening at Sariab Road near a Wapda gird station. Policemen Nazeer Ahmed and Mohammad Nasir and bus driver Abdul Baqi were injured when the bomb planted on a bicycle parked in a grid station on the Sariab Road exploded.
The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital.
Explosions also took place in Jinnah Town and Ayub Sports Stadium and near Askari Park.
Two bombs also exploded in Mach.
In Khuzdar, a bomb exploded in a bathroom of the municipal committee building.
In Kohlu, two bombs exploded on Sunday morning near the office of the tehsildar and in a classroom of a government school. At least a dozen rockets were fired at FC checkpoints in Kohlu area in the early hours of Monday. FC men also fired rockets and mortar shells in return.
Some people also fired rockets near Turbat Airport.
On Monday evening, Quetta was again rocked by a bomb explosion in the satellite town area. The bomb planted in an under-construction house damaged a portion of it.
