Bilal annexes singles title

LAHORE, Aug 13:National champion Bilal Yasin (Wapda) annexed the men’s singles open title in the Independence Day table tennis tournament, carving out an easy 4-1 win against Yasir Bhatti (HBL) in the final at Chroma Table Tennis Complex on Saturday.

Bilal completed the win with the score 11-9, 11-6, 8-11,11-8, 11-7 in the best of seven final.

Earlier, Bilal defeated Asim Aziz (HBL) 4-0 in the semifinals while Yasir booked a place in the final, beating Jehangir Khan (Wapda) 4-1.

The men’s amateur title was claimed by national champion Owais Hassan (Lahore) when he beat Yahya (Sheikhupura) 11-6, 14-12, 9-11, 11-5.

Earlier, in the prefinals, Owais beat Saad Tariq (Lahore) 3-2 while Yahya outplayed Shujjat Ali (Faisalabad) 3-1.

Hafiz Umer (Lahore) beat Hassan Tahir (Lahore) to win the boy’s upcoming final 11-7, 12-10, 9-11, 11-4.

Umer entered the final beating Salman Ahmed (Sheikhupura) 3-2 while Hassan ousted Shayan Ali (Lahore) 3-1.
