KARACHI: Shopkeepers penalized


KARACHI, Aug 13: The Judicial Magistrate Karachi (West) has imposed penalties worth Rs15,000 on five grocers for adulteration in various food items. The Regulation and Quality Control Department (RCQ) of the city government had collected samples of various food items from various shops in the city to verify their purity. These samples were sent to the city government’s laboratory for further examination.

Laboratory reports showed adulteration in some of the collected food items, and cases were registered against the grocers.

The JM (West) imposed Rs6,000 penalty on Muhammad Hussain, owner of Fazalur Rehman Chemicals, Shershah on adulteration in food chemicals; Rs2,000 on Noushad, owner of Shakeel Store, Keamari on adulteration in food salt; Rs2,000 on Syed Rehan Alam, owner of Three Star Confectionery Store, Shershah on adulteration in biscuits; Rs3,000 on Muhammad Akram, owner of KPT Canteen on adulteration in pure drinking water; and Rs2,000 on Shahid Zaki, owner of Rafique Medical Store, Orangi Town.—APP
