Five-man squad for Glasgow

KARACHI, Aug 12: Pakistan announced on Friday a five-member boxing squad for Commonwealth championship in Glasgow, United Kingdom, to be organized from Aug 15 to 20. Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) had jointly organized national cadet and senior ranking boxing tournament to select the boxers. However, the event ended in fiasco as PBF “scratched” the senior ranking tournament midway.

Even if the performance of the boxers during the so-called senior ranking tournament is considered, bantamweight Ali Mohammad was an underachiever as he lost two bouts, winning only once.

According to PBF, the boxers have been selected by coach Reinaldo Alvarez. The team, along with officials, is scheduled to depart for Glasgow on Sunday. Ghulam Hussain Patni will be the referee/judge.

Squad: Flyweight Noman Kareem, bantamweight Ali Mohammad, featherweight Meherullah, lightweight Hayatullah, and light-welterweight Asghar Ali Shah.

Officials: Shahid Pervez (manager), and Reinaldo Alvarez (coach).
