Tamil Tigers’ ultimatum

COLOMBO, Aug 11: LTTE political adviser and chief peace negotiator, Anton Balasingham, on Thursday warned of a full-fledged armed confrontation between rebel cadres and government troops. The warning came after two high-ranking LTTE cadres were killed on Wednesday, the latest in a string of uninvestigated murders in the northeast. Balasingham in an interview with the LTTE’s official website Tamilnet demanded that the government disarm Tamil paramilitary groups based in the north and east.
