Saqib, Saima crowned champions

LAHORE, Aug 10: Sheikh Saqib and Saima Shaukat won the boys’ and girls’ finals of the Punjab Jashan-i-Azadi squash championship held at the Punjab Squash Complex courts on Wednesday.

Saqib was stretched by Ali Hassan to four games before he won the boys’ title with the score being 9-6, 9-3, 8-9, 9-7.

The final lasted 34 minutes. Saima made short work of Mahwish Hanif 9-3, 9-1, 9-5 to win the girls’ title in 21 minutes long final.

The under-15 boys’ final was the longest match of the event in which Hamza Bukhari fought for 63 minutes to notch up win against Haroon Rasheed.

Hamza romped home after making a sluggish start for 8/10, 8-10, 10-8, 9-4, 9-6 victory.

Results:

Boys U-15 (semifinals): Haroon Rasheed bt Ahmad Amin 4-9, 9-5, 9-6, 9-3; Hamza Bukhari bt Naqash Shahid 9-3, 9-4, 9-6.

Final: Hamza Bukhari bt Haroon Rasheed 8-10, 8-10, 10-8, 9-4, 9-6.

Boys U-19 (semifinals): Ali Hasan bt Yasir Sarwar 9-7, 8-10, 9-7, 9-6; Sheikh Saqib bt Waseem 9-5, 9-4, 9-7.

Final: Sheikh Saqib bt Ali Hassan 9-6, 9-3, 8-9, 9-7.

Girls U-15 (final): Roshna Mehboob bt Samar Anjum 9-3, 9-5, 9-6.

U-19 (final): Saima Shaukat bt Mahwish Hanif 9-3, 9-1, 9-5.
