BHC orders case against candidate
QUETTA, Aug 10: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) has directed police to register a case against a petitioner for submitting a bogus educational certificate to election authorities to contest for a nazim’s seat in the local body polls.
The BHC bench, comprising Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani and Justice Metha Kelashnath Kohli, on Wednesday ordered forfeiture of the bogus matric certificate and investigation against the petitioner.
Earlier, an advocate representing the provincial election commission, informed the court that after verification the certificate, supposedly issued by the Sindh Board of Technical Education, had been found to be bogus.
Mohammad Safar, who had sought to contest for the nazim seat of Gishkor union council in Awaran district, had filed the petition against rejection of his nomination papers.
Meanwhile, the court disposed of 31 and allowed some appeals filed against rejection of nomination papers.
SHOT DEAD: An unidentified armed man shot dead a glass trader on Zarghoon Road on Wednesday night.
According to police, the trader, Anwar Abidi, was on his way to home after closing his shop at the Zarghoon Road when an armed man opened fire on him with an automatic weapon, killing him on the spot. Later, the assailant fled.
Soon after the incident, a large number of people gathered at the Civil Hospital and raised slogans against the administration. They blocked the main Jinnah Road for traffic. They also demanded immediate arrest of the accused involved in the killing.
A heavy contingent of police has been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control. The road was closed till late night.
