Blast near Hangu school leaves man injured

HANGU, Aug 10: A fortune-teller suffered serious injuries when an explosive device went off near a government high school in the main bazaar here on Wednesday. A bomb disposal squad rushed to the place soon after the incident, while police cordoned off the area and started search for suspects.

Districti police officer Mazharul Haq Kakakhel said that the police had arrested two suspects near the site of incident.

The injured, Ismail, resident of Mingora, Swat, told police that an unidentified man had placed a bag at his makeshift office on a footpath in Hangu bazaar.

He said that when the man left the place and disappeared in the crowd, the bag exploded with a big bang. Traffic on the main road also remained suspended for about an hour.

LAW AND ORDER: A meeting was held here to review the law and order situation ahead of the local government polls in Hangu.

The meeting presided over by DPO Mazharul Haq Kakakhel was also attended by all the contestants for the 19 union councils of the district. Also present at the meeting were Muttehida-Majlis-i-Amal leader Haji Khan Afzal and prominent Shia leader Hussain Ali Shah.

The meeting observed that law and order would be maintained to hold the polls in a peaceful atmosphere.

The participants assured that they would extend support to the law enforcement agen-cies for smooth polling in the district.

MINERS FALL UNCONSCIOUS: Three workers fell unconscious after they inhaled poisonous gas while working at a coal mine in the Sheikhan area of lower Orakzai Agency on Wednesday. The three miners were identified as Fazal Badshah, Mohammad Alam and Mohammad Yom.

They were shifted to the civil hospital in Hangu, where their condition was stated to be stable.
