Australia call up Clarke

BIRMINGHAM, Aug 9: Australia have called uncapped fast bowler Stuart Clark into their squad for the third Ashes Test as cover for the injured Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee, spokesman for the Australian Cricket Board said on Tuesday.

McGrath has been ruled out of the Ashes test starting at Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday with a damaged ankle while Lee spent Monday night in hospital with a knee infection.

A tall right-arm seamer, Clark will join his Australian team mates in Manchester later on Tuesday.

Selectors included the 29-year-old in the squad after his promising displays with English county side Middlesex.

He took five for 61 for Middlesex against Warwickshire in his last county match.

Australia won the first of the five Tests at Lord’s before England levelled the series with a dramatic victory at Edgbaston last weekend. #—Agencies
