OKARA, Aug 9: Additional district and sessions judge and returning officer Imtiaz Husain has summoned the defence minister, the Okara DPO and a candidate for the UC nazim for violating the code of conduct.

Reports said in the city union council No 91/3, a candidate for the nazim slot, Naseem Shaukat, filed an application with the returning officer alleging that Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal addressed a corner meeting of his group’s nominee, Afzal Paiji, at Machli Chowk of Katchery Bazaar on Monday night.

He alleged that the defence minister came to the venue in a flag-bearing car escorted by a police squad, thus violating the election rules and the code of conduct.

The returning officer issued notices to the defence minister, the DPO and the candidate to explain their position on Aug 11 before the court. — Correspondent
