KARACHI: 5 leaders attacked in Umerkot, says PPP

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 9: The Pakistan People Party on Tuesday alleged that five of its leaders escaped attempt on their life by armed assailants in Samaro tehsil of Umerkot.

According to media cell spokesman at Bilawal House, MNA Nawab Mohammad Yousuf Talpur, former provincial minister Mir Munawar Talpur, MPA Ali Mardan Shah, Ali Murad Rajar and Nawab Taimur Talpur escaped miracously when their convoy was attacked by some unknown armed men in Samaro tehsil of Umarkot on Tuesday evening.

The PPP leaders said they had identified some attackers and were on their way to Samaro police station to lodge a FIR.

Meanwhile, provincial president of the Pakistan Peoples Party Qaim Ali Shah, on Tuesday rejected the claim of the Election Commission that District Returning Officers (DRO) Tharparkar received no complaints regarding kidnapping or restricting of the opposition candidates during filing of nomination papers.

In a statement Mr Shah claimed that many Awam Dost candidates had gone to the office of DRO Tharparker but their complaints were either not received or simply not entertained as per law. He said that so-called inquiry into the unopposed elections of the Arbab Rahim’s nominees was tantamount to hoodwinking people.
