RIYADH, Aug 7: US diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia will be closed on Monday and Tuesday because of a threat against US buildings, the US embassy said on Sunday. Saudi Arabia swiftly responded, saying it had no solid information about any imminent threat in the kingdom.

A US statement said the embassy in Riyadh and the consulates in Jeddah and Dhahran would be closed on Aug 8 and 9 “in response to a threat against US government buildings in the kingdom”. The embassy advised US citizens to maintain a high-level of vigilance and take steps to increase security awareness.

But Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman General Mansour al-Turki told reporters: “We have no confirmed information about any imminent terrorist threat in the kingdom.”—Reuters
