Cases against 103 for code violation

Dawn Report

GUJRANWALA, Aug 6: Over 48 people, including four nazim, naib nazim and general councillor candidates, were arrested here on Saturday on charges of taking out a procession and clashing with police, violating the election code.

Reports said People’s Colony UC nazim candidate Liaquat Bhatti and his supporters took out a procession regarding election campaign when his rival aspirant Shaukat Ali Khan along with his aides also staged a rally and pelted stones at the Bhatti group.

On receiving information, the police arrested about 22 people, including the candidates, and registered a case against them for violating election code of conduct.

In another incident, some supporters of a nazim hopeful were allegedly displaying arms at their election office in Model Town when the police raided the area. On which, they attacked the police party and manhandled some officials.

Later, the police arrested 26 people, including the candidates, and registered a case.

SIALKOT: Daska police on Saturday have registered separate cases against more than 55 local poll candidates, including the six backed by the ruling PML for code of conduct violations.

The candidates for the slots of UC nazims, naib nazims, and councillors and their supporters were mostly booked for wall chalking, displaying huge banners, hoisting party flags and other code violations.

No arrests have so far been made.
