NAROWAL, Aug 4: The ongoing cold war between the ruling PML district president and secretary-general may adversely affect the party’s vote bank in the upcoming local polls.
Both the office-bearers were backing their own groups in various union councils and were campaigning against each other’s candidates.
PML district president MPA Khizar Ilyas Wirk and the secretary-general Khawaja Waseem Butt are supporting different panels of nazims and naib-nazims in the four union councils of the city.
In city’s UC 1, Khawaja Waseem is himself a candidate for the nazim’s slot, but Mr Wirk is supporting his rival candidate Maulana Abdur Razzaq. Similarly, in UC 2, Khwaja Waseem is supporting his brother Khawaja Nadeem for nazim’s slot, but Mr Wirk is backing the rival candidate Farooq Khan. In UC 3, Khawaja Waseem is supporting Akhtar Hussain Bhatti for nazim, whereas Khizar Ilyas Wirk is supporting Faisal Dar, while In UC 4, Mr Waseem is backing Mirza Muhammad Akhtar for nazim’s seat while Mr Wirk is behind his rival candidate Muhammad Usman.
A similar situation in many other union councils has created a confusion among the PML workers, who are finding it difficult to decide as to which course they should opt in the fast approaching polls.
