Anti-polio drive to begin from 9th

MANSEHRA, Aug 4: All the arrangements have been made for the three-day anti-polio drive from Aug 9 to 11 in the district during which 252,000 children under the age of five years would be administered anti-polio drops.

This was stated by the EDO health Dr Syed Pervez Ali Shah and EPI coordinator Dr Mohammed Bashir here on Thursday.

They said that a total of 610 mobile teams had been constituted for the purpose besides 69 fixed centres and 13 checkposts. They said that all necessary equipment have been dispatched to the health units of all the union councils on Aug 1. The EDO health said that the vehicles of the health department had been engaged by the Election Commission for the local body elections but the DCO has assured financial support for hiring the vehicles for the drive.

APPEALS: A total of 58 appeals had been filed against the rejection of nomination papers before the District Returning Officer by various candidates from the district contesting the local body elections. Out of these 37 appeals had been accepted and 18 rejected. The candidates for the nazim and naib nazim had filed a total of 13 appeals, out of which four appeals were accepted, six rejected while three candidates had withdrawn their appeals. The candidates for Muslim general councillors had filed a total of 20 appeals, out of which 18 appeals were accepted and two rejected. The candidates for Muslim women councillors had filed a total of 10 appeals against the rejection of their nomination papers, out of which seven were accepted and three were rejected. The appeal of Sher Bano, a candidate for Muslim woman councillor from union council Hangrai of Balakot tehsil had been partly accepted. The candidates for workers/peasants had filed a total of 12 appeals, out of which seven appeals were accepted and five rejected.

The candidates for workers/peasants women had filed a total of three appeals against the rejection of nomination papers, out of which two appeals were accepted and one rejected. The candidates for nazim and naib nazim whose appeals had been accepted.
