JWP leader joins hunger strike against detention

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Aug 4: A Jamhoori Watan Party leader has joined Baloch Students’ Organization’s vice-chairman Sohrab Baloch in his hunger strike in support of his demand for production of detained nationalist leaders in court. Mr Baloch has been on hunger strike since Monday.

Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Thursday, Khuzdar JWP chief Mir Ghaffar Sasoli said the BSO leadership had taken a bold step to expose the excesses of intelligence agencies against the Baloch youth.

He said he had decided to join the BSO leader’s hunger strike to force the government to release the activists kept in illegal confinement or produce them in court.

He alleged that federal and provincial intelligence agencies were raiding homes of political activists and humiliating women and harassing children.

Denouncing the arrest former BSO chairman Dr Allah Nazar, Ali Asghar Bungulzai and activists, he alleged that the detainees were tortured to force them to give up their struggle for national rights. A large number of members of political and students’ organizations visited the camp set up in front of the press club to express solidarity with the hunger strikers.
