KARACHI, Aug 4: The police on Thursday picked up the father and brother of one of the two girls, who were shot dead and whose bodies were discovered from the Defence Housing Society on Monday.

Their identity was established on Wednesday as Sumaira, 24, daughter of Lala Zameen Khan and Anila, 20, daughter of Abdur Rasheed. Police believed family dispute was the cause of the double murder.

Lala Zameen Khan is the resident of Bhutta Village, Keamari. He is a taxi driver but he did not show his taxi to the police until Thursday night.

He had misguided the police till late Wednesday night by giving registration number of a taxi belonging to Jawed, who lives in the same neighbourhood.

The police located the taxi and picked up Jawed, who told the police that he owned the taxi but had never given it to Lala.

Police again approached Lala, who was in mourning over the death of his daughter. Lala told the police that he was just kidding. Police took the taxi into custody from North Nazimabad. The attitude of Lala strengthened the doubts of the police about his links to the double murder.

He said the behaviour of Lala Zameen Khan was strange and as a father, who had lost his daughter, he did not behave like one.

He said that Lala Zameen had not disclosed his source of income so far. Lala said he had hired a driver, who drove the taxi. But there should be other sources of income to meet the domestic expenses, the DSP said.

While the whereabouts of Shaukat were also not certain, the DSP said, whether he was here or abroad.

Shaukat is the person with whom the nikah of Sumaira was solemnized by her mother against the will of her husband Lala Zameen Khan.

The police has picked up Lala for questioning. “We will interrogate Lala during the night,” the officer said. The police also associated Lala’s son with the investigation process.

MURDER: A man, in his early 30s, was shot dead by unidentified men in Lyari.

Police said Maula Bux was attacked by unknown gunmen at the Mama Hotel. The assailants fled the scene after the incident.

Bux received multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. The body was taken to hospital for autopsy.

Police said that Bux was the son-in-law of a notorious gangster, Nazeer Kana, who had been killed some time back. Police believed the murder to be a result of enmity.
