KARACHI, Aug 4: Foreign students studying in the country’s seminaries have been asked to continue their studies with devotion and contentment. These views were expressed by chief of the Tahaffuz-e-Madaris Deenia and Ulema Action Committee Mufti Muhammad Naeem while addressing foreign students after meeting the home secretary.

He told the students that their motto was to acquire knowledge; therefore, they should not be worried by the ups and downs.

“We are disappointed with the meeting. However, we have recorded our views and reservations about foreign students,” he added.

Mufti Naeem, who is also chief of the Sunni Majlis-i-Amal, said they were prepared to face all hurdles in this connection.

He urged students to continue paying full attention to their studies. “Our negotiations with the government will Insha Allah bear fruits,” he said.

Mufti Naeem said that before the meeting with home secretary, they were expecting that the government would demonstrate flexibility, but were disappointed, as the meeting was only called for compliance with orders.

“However, the home department has been informed that the repatriation of foreign students is not a joke, as it involved the prestige of the country,” he remarked.

Referring to the meeting of ulema with the home secretary and other government functionaries, Mufti Naeem termed it a good move of the government for mutual consultation to find a solution to the problem.

Terming it a need of the hour, he said that the government had never taken the Wafaqul Madaris Board into confidence in the past nor had it ever consulted ulema.

He also pointed out that their ulema were being killed and madressahs were under attacks, but the government had failed to take notice, nor was any killer of ulema ever arrested.

“Although we are victims of terrorism even then, we have extended all-out cooperation to the government and have always pursued the policy of peace.

“But, if the government continues its policy of committing excesses against them, they would be compelled to follow the path of protest,” he warned.

Mufti Naeem said their action committee had been reactivated, and besides, the Wafaqul Madaris were also holding meetings throughout the country, and soon they would make their line of action public.
