DERA GHAZI KHAN, Aug 3: The Leghari group is misusing the government resources in the local election campaign as former district nazim Jamal Khan Leghari has illegally inaugurated the telephone exchange on behalf of his brother, who is the federal telecommunication minister.

This was alleged by former district council chairman Saifuddin Khan Khosa, who is an aspirant for the top slot of the district. He has demanded that the Election Commission of Pakistan should take notice of abuse of influence by the Leghari group. He further alleged that former district nazim Jamal Leghari, along with some candidates of union councils, had inaugurated the telephone exchange at Gudhpur on behalf of his brother, Federal Telecommunication Minister Awais Khan Leghari, to muster political support.

He accused the federal minister of attending the functions arranged by the candidates of the Jamal Leghari group in a clear-cut violation of code of conduct.

PROTEST: The Christian community on Wednesday decided to set up a protest camp against police for allegedly trespassing on a house and severely torturing a teenager. According to the representatives of the community, the Civil Lines police on July 29 entered the house of one Johnson Gill, without any search warrant or women staff, when he was not present there. The police allegedly manhandled Johnson’s wife and picked up his teenaged son Danial, who was later brought to the police station and subjected to severe torture by a constable Ayaz alias Shikra. An ear of the boy got affected by the torture. Later, the boy was rescued from police by notables of the area.

The community members, earlier, through an application sent to city SDPO Ehsan Manzoor, alleged that Constable Ayaz had demanded a bottle of liquor from Gill which he refused to give him. They had demanded suspension of the constable.

They decided to set up protest camp after their application failed to elicit any response from the SDPO. They also accuse Mr Manzoor of defending the constable.
