SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 3: Over 100 police patrol posts out of the 450 have started their operation in 20 districts of the province. This was stated by Punjab IGP Ziaul Hassan while addressing journalists after inaugurating the Sheikhupura patrol post on the GT Road on Wednesday. He said the remaining posts would become operational by the end of the year.
He said Rs700 million would be spent on purchasing vehicles, weapons, wireless sets and modern equipment. Around 250 vehicles had already been purchased for these posts where 40,000 staffers, including 500 sub-inspectors, 1,000 assistant sub-inspector, 1,500 head constables, 9,000 constables, 1,000 drivers and 1,000 wireless operators, had been recruited.
The IGP said the posts had been created on the directions of Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to improve the police performance. Sheikhupura Range DIG Pervez Rahim Rajput, DIG patrol Syed Saqlain Naqvi, DPO Syed Ibne Husain and SSP Motorway Syed Ijaz Husain Shah were also present.
SARGODHA: As many as nine out of the ten patrolling posts in the district have started their operations on Wednesday to ensure safe travelling on highways, while in the next phase 18 more such posts will become functional.
Deputy Inspector General Pervez Akbar Lodhi stated this at the inauguration of a patrolling post at Chak No 67 NB, set up at a cost of Rs2.5 million. He said Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi would daily monitor the working of all posts which were inter-linked through computer. The central control room has been set up at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
He said in the four districts of Sargodha range as many as 72 patrolling posts would be set up, while 10 posts in each district would start their operations in the first phase. He further said that 28 posts would be set up in Sargodha district, besides 14 in Khushab, 12 in Bhakkar and 18 in Mianwali.
Earlier, DPO Muhammad Naeem Khan stated that on each post 31 officials, including 18 constables, have been deployed who have been trained upon the pattern of Motorway Police. He said all posts have been equipped with modern equipment, vehicles and other facilities to help check the increasing highway robberies.
DCO Ubaib Rabani Qureshi said on the occasion that these posts would help the police curtail the crimes in an affective manner.
