KARACHI, Aug 3: The vice-chancellor of Dow University, Prof Masood Hameed, on Wednesday emphasized the postgraduate trainees to work with dedication and sincerity to achieve their goals. He was addressing the postgraduate trainees at Dow University of Health Sciences. Dow varsity postgraduate committee’s chairman Prof Syed Inkisar Ali also addressed the trainees and informed them about various steps being taken to improve training at the university.
Prof Massod Hameed appreciated the efforts of Prof Inkisar Ali for working with dedication to streamline the working of postgraduate committee. He said that the DUHS was trying to provide stipends for minor diploma trainees and also enhance the stipends for all postgraduate trainees.
The vice-chancellor said the training slots were non-practicing arrangements and it was in the interest of trainees to honour their commitment. He said that skill lab was being created and the vigilance committee constituted by the postgraduate committee would monitor working of the trainees. He advised the committee to form postgraduate trainees group for feedback. He said that a conference on the subject would be held and both trainees and trainers would put forward their views for improving postgraduate medical education at the varsity.
Prof Inkisar Ali thanked the vice-chancellor for his patronage and active involvements in affair of the postgraduate medical education. He presented a paper on the PGME in Pakistan and lauded the role of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) in promoting postgraduate medical education. He complemented the CPSP for producing more than 15,000 specialists in various fields.
He emphasized the need for increasing the number of training slots for postgraduate trainees. He suggested that arrangements should be made at district-level hospitals and supervisors with major qualifications should be attached with a teaching hospital. Better use should be made of internet and video conferencing between district hospitals and tertiary care hospital. —PPI
