KARACHI: Notices issued to officials on candidate’s plea

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 3: A division bench of the Sindh High Court issued notices to the election authorities for Aug 8 in a petition moved by a candidate for the office of nazim of UC-III, Moro, Naushehro Feroze, against rejection of his papers. Petitioner Nadir Ali Solangi submitted that his papers were rejected by the returning and district returning officers on an objection raised by his rival candidate.

According to the objector, he was dismissed from government service in 1999 and was, thus, ineligible to contest the polls. The petitioner’s counsel submitted that he was dismissed for absence from duty due to illness. There was no charge of corruption, inefficiency or misconduct.

The bench also issued notices in a petition by Anwar Channa, a candidate for the office of nazim of UC Thul-I, Jacobabad. His counsel argued that he was disqualified for association with an outlawed militant outfit. He said the allegation was based on some FIRs lodged against the petitioner. He said the petitioner was neither tried nor convicted for any offence falling within the purview of terrorism.
