Swat Green and Red in semis

PESHAWAR, Aug 2: Swat Green and Swat Red entered the semifinal of the District Swat Inter-club hockey championship on Tuesday. Swat Green defeated Fatehpur 6-4 in a thrilling battle while Swat Red beat Comber XI 6-3 on penalty shootout.

Swat Green were three goals down till the end of first-half, but soon they recovered and not only levelled the score 3-3 by back-to-back goals but also won the match 6-4. Fatehpur’s Riaz Khan, Alam Khan and Shah Faisal scored a goal each in the 13th, 16th and 19th minutes to make it 3-0. The lead, though, failed to dampen Swat Green’s spirits as they pulled level in no time through Ajmal, Zulfiqar and Khansaib.

Unmarked Alam once again put Fatehpur 4-3 ahead but only to see his effort levelled by Swat Green’s right-winger Ajmal.

Ajmal was followed by Murad and Khansaib who struck two quick goals in the dying moments.

Swat Red and Comber XI remained locked at 1-1 throughout the stipulated 70 minutes and the match had to be decided on penalty shootouts.

Fazal Rabi and Khalid scored for their teams on field attempts.

Swat Red converted all the five attempts while Comber XI could avail only two chances.—APP
