Basketball: PBF official urges elections

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Aug 2: Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBF) ad hoc committee secretary Col. Nasim Butt has said that it was the responsibility of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) to conduct elections in the federation to end five years long ad hoc imposed by the Pakistan Sports Board (PBS).

“Yes, the ad hoc is not helping to promote the game and I have written several letters to the POA to conduct elections,” the secretary said.

The elections were to be held in April 2002 by the POA according to an order of the Supreme Court.

But the POA refused to hold it, citing the list of voters provided by the ad hoc body did not comply with the POA’s constitution.

Nasim said that the national junior championship would be held at New Model School from Aug 10 to 13.

Attock will host the national senior championship from Sept 22 to 30.

Similarly, All-Pakistan women tournament will also be held in Lahore in November.

The dates will be announced later. Meanwhile, 17 teams are participating in the All Pakistan Don Bosco Jashan-e-Azadi tournament starting from Tuesday night.

The teams are: Army, Fata, Sargodha, Don Bosco Blues, Wapda, Rangers Reds, Fazal Ameer, Don Bosco Reds, Police, Punjab College, Don Bosco A, New Age, Tigers Club, POF, Rangers Blues, Don Bosco B, Frank Five.
