Inquiry ordered

SUKKUR, Aug 2: The Sindh IG Prison has ordered an inquiry into the recent rioting in the Sukkur central jail-I. He ordered to implement the jail manual and to take action against jail officials who were involved in demanding money from relatives of prisoners to allow them to meet.

He asked to complete an inquiry well before August 6 and submit him during his visit to Sukkur.

The DPOs of Sukkur and Khairpur districts, the jail superintendent and deputy superintendent negotiated with the leaders of prisoners including Kamal Fakir Shaikh, Zahid Shah and Anwar Mahar and on their assurance that no gratification would be extorted from their relatives for meeting, the prisoners went back to their barracks.

Jail Superintendent Gulzar Channa told Dawn that the money snatched from the prisoners during the last operation was being paid to them. He said that search operation would be conducted every month.—BoC
