Body formed to make arrangements: League centenary

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 2: Quaid Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has constituted a 15-member committee to make arrangements for celebration of the party’s centenary foundation anniversary next year in a befitting manner.

According to a party spokesman, the committee is headed by PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq.

The other members are Sartaj Aziz, Saranjam Zamindar, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Mian Mohammad Zaman, Ghulam Dastagir Khan, Ahsan Iqbal, Maimoona Hashmi, Imdad Chandio, Saleem Zia, Subedar Mandokhel and all the four provincial presidents as the ex-officio members.

Mr Sharif, through a message, directed the party leaders and workers to make this historic moment a turning point in the history of the nation by seizing power from the establishment and handing it over to the people.

He directed them to revive the vision of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for a Pakistan governed democratically with justice, equal opportunities of economic development for all, self-respect and a society free from all prejudices.

Mr Sharif said: “The centennial founding anniversary of PML falls under the challenging circumstances for Pakistan, in particular and the Muslim world in general in many ways similar to the challenges faced by our elderly which led to the formation of the PML on December 30, 1906. The history again looks towards the PML to lead our people towards a secure and an honourable destiny.”

He said there was no room for uniformed democracy, compromises on fundamental principles and turncoat culture in the Quaid’s vision.

SEVERAL PML-N LEADERS IN LONDON: Several important leaders of the PML-N, who are in London, have held separate meetings with party President Shahbaz.

Those currently visiting London are PML-N Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Vice-President Mushahidullah Khan, acting parliamentary leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, MNA Maimoona Hashmi and Mohammad Mehdi.

A source told Dawn that PML-N leader Mohammad Mehdi met Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday and discussed with him the political situation in the country. Shahbaz Sharif welcomed Mr Mehdi, who had joined the PML-N after quitting the Awami Qiyadat Party, in the party fold and expressed the hope that he would continue struggle for restoration of democracy in the country from the party’s platform.

Nisar Ali Khan has been in London for the past over one month, while the remaining leaders have gone there to attend the launching ceremony of the book of jailed ARD leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi.
