KARACHI, Aug 2: The returning officers in Karachi City District and 10 other districts of Sindh are in the process of preparing election schemes for their respective districts which would be finalized with the consent of district administrations concerned.
Lists of polling personnel and polling stations are also being given a final shape for the local elections to be held on Aug 18 in the first phase.
According to details made available of the 81 candidates who have been elected uncontested in Karachi city district, Liaquatabad is the only town where seven Nazims and Naib Nazims faced no contest.
According to sources close to the EC, the UCs from where Nazims and Naib Nazims have been elected uncontested are: Supermarket, Dakkhana, Qasimabad, Bandhani Colony, Sharifabad, Commercial area and Mujahid Colony.
In New Karachi Town, seven members of the minorities faced no fight in UCs Jinnah Colony, Abu Zar Ghaffari, Faisal, Mustafa Colony, Gulshan-i-Saeed and Nawaz Bhutto Colony.
In Keamari Town, two members of the minorities returned uncontested in UC Baba Bhit and Machchar Colony.
In SITE Town, seven members, including two peasants and workers (men) and two peasants and workers (women) and one minorities candidate returned uncontested in UC Pak Colony. Besides two members of minorities were declared elected uncontested in Pathan Colony and Qasba.
In Baldia Town, four minorities members returned uncontested from Islam Nagar, Saeedabad, Muhajir Colony and Rasheedabad.
In Orangi Town, 19 members returned uncontested, including four Muslim women and four peasants / workers (women) two each in Data Nagar and Mujahidabad while one member of the minorities also got elected in UCs Haryana Colony, Hanifabad, Mohammad Nagar, Madina Colony, Ghaziabad, Chishti Nagr, Bilal Colony, Iqbal Baloch, Gabol Colony, Data Nagar and Mujahidabad.
In Gadap Town, four members faced no fight, including two peasants and workers women in Maymarabad and one minority member each in Maymarabad and Manghopir UCs.
In North Nazimabad Town, only one member of the minorities returned uncontested from UC Shadman Town.
Likewise, in Gulberg Town the only member returned uncontested is from minorities seat in UC Yaseenabad.
Twenty-three other members who have returned uncontested after the withdrawal of candidature are one each from minorities seat in union councils PECHS, Garden East, Soldier Bazar (Jamshed Town); Civic Centre, Gilani Railway Station, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Metroville Colony (Gulshan Town), Mustafa Taj Colony, 100 Quarters, Korangi Sector-33 and Hasrat Mohani Colony (Korangi Town); Bhutto Nagar, Khawaja Ajmer Colony, Awami Colony, Burmese Colony, Sherabad Colony (Landhi Town); Pak Saadat Colony, Drigh Colony, Rata Plat, Morio Khan, Al-Falah Society (Shah Faisal Town) and Saudabad (Malir Town).
It is also learnt that the military authorities have summoned lists of all valid candidates from Karachi City District to ensure their security amid apprehensions expressed by some candidates about their kidnapping attempts.
