Patricia makes it two in a row
KARACHI, July 31: Riding on the crest of a wave, three-year-old filly, Patricia, made it two in a row as jockeys Muhammad Essa and Waheed Baran shared the day’s honours by performing magnificent doubles apiece in the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
On a day when most of the strong contenders were cut down to size, Patricia, ridden by Essa and trained by Mumtaz Ali, overtook Leo and Birj-ul-Arab to win the six-furlong race by five lengths. Leo and Birj-ul-Arab had to be content with second and third positions, respectively in the race which was participated by seven horses.
Patricia’s owner, Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara’s another horse Bang On Target who was also in contention in the same race, was off colour and could not even secure a place.
Earlier, Essa had an impressive start when he rode home Desperado in the second race of afternoon that featured thirteen participants. Golden Voice and Roop Ki Rani occupied second and third positions, respectively.
Fascinate, carrying only 8-8 weight on his back with Waheed Baran in the saddle, clinched the fourth race with twelve horses in the fray. Free Spirit and Knight Fighter settled for the remaining two places.
Waheed Baran continued his winning spree when Lady Freedom, featuring in the sixth race, crossed the winning post ahead of fifteen opponents in a photo finish.
Also proud with jockeys Essa and Waheed Baran was none other than Ms Benish Hasan whose two horses Fascinate and Clapping emerged victorious. With Ali Hasan in the saddle, Clapping won the third race beating Kinjehar and Lucky View.
