ISLAMABAD, July 30: A meeting of the heads of the component parties of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) will be held here on Sunday (today) to discuss the strategy for the local government elections. ARD sources told this correspondent that the parties, particularly the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), would take up the issue of seat adjustments as there were reports that the two parties had fielded candidates against each other in some of the places.
Earlier, in the ARD’s last meeting on June 27, the PPP and the PML-N leaders had agreed to seat adjustments among their parties, other components of the alliance and other opposition groups. At that time, the ARD leaders had announced that they could make seat adjustments with any opposition party but not with the ruling PML or its coalition partners.
However, later there were reports that the PML-N had made seat adjustments with the ruling PML in six districts of the Punjab, including Okara, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kasur, Multan and Sheikhupura.
