HARIPUR, July 30: A woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in village Suraj Gali, Khanpur, some 17km from here, on Friday evening police said. This was the second incident of suicide within two days in the same village as earlier an elderly man killed himself over a dispute with his wife on Wednesday. Khanpur police quoting Mohammad Salman as saying that his wife Atlas Jan 31 had become mentally disturbed for quite some time and she locked herself in her room and hanged herself from a ceiling fan. Later when family members broke into the room they found her dead. Police has registered a case and investigation was under way.
Villagers expressed their concern over the suicide by a woman who was reportedly issueless and demanded a thorough probe. In another incident a woman was burnt by her husband and his sister after a minor altercation in village Hally in the jurisdiction of Khanpur police some 52 km from here on Friday.
Nasreen Akhtar wife of Mohammad Shafiq told police from her hospital bed of Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad that when her husband Shafiq asked her to give water to the cattle heads, as she was busy in some domestic work so she failed to urgently respond to his order at this he got annoyed and burnt her with the help of his sister Yasmin.
She told police that by the time area people came to her rescue after hearing her screams she had received serious burn injuries and was sent to Khanpur hospital from where she was shifted to Ayub Medical Complex. According to family sources Nasreen had received about 30 pc burn injuries.
The police have registered a case against Shafiq and Yasmin who were still at large.
STUDENT KILLED: Meanwhile a 5th grade student died after drowning in river Siran near village Beer some 45 km from here on Friday. Family sources said that Fawad s/o Sadiq went to take bath in river Siran with his friends and he slipped there into deep water and drowned. His body was later fished out by area people and handed over to relatives.
