DADU, July 30: Five irrigation officials of the southern division of Dadu were suspended on Saturday on charges of selling water to influential landlords. On the directives of irrigation secretary Shuja Ahmed Junejo, a team of irrigation officers, led by the superintending engineer of western circle, Larkana, Ghulam Hyder Qureshi, with Rangers officials raided different watercourses of Khudabad, Phakka, Bakhrani originating from the Dadu canal and the Johi branch.
Team found 30 watercourses tempered with. The superintending engineer suspended three sub-engineers namely Khan Mohammad Channa, Qurban Ali Khoso, Ghulam Rasool Soomro and two Daroghas, Gulab and Nawaz Mallah.
He directed the executive engineer of southern division to register cases against landlords, including Zulfiqar Bhand, Naban, Zahid Hussain, Ghulam Hyder, Bakhshal Mallah and Mulan Ahmed Panhwar.
Secretary of irrigation Shuja Junejo told Dawn that Rangers officials were conducting raids along with irrigation officials at different waterways in Sindh.
He said that complete water share would be provided to growers of Dadu, Rice canals and the Johi branch.
ALLEGATION: Ex-nazim of the UC Sita Road and a leader of the Dadu Ittehad Panel, Mr Ali Mohammad Soomro, has said that leaders of the People’s Party Parliamentarians had registered 350 bogus voters in the voters’ lists of UC Sita Road.
Speaking at a press conference at the press club on Thursday, Mr Soomro alleged the voters were registered in the voter lists on fake certificates which were never issued by him during his tenure.
He said names of 1,600 voters belonging to the Dadu Ittehad were deleted from 2005 voters lists although their names were present in voters’ list of the previous LB elections.
