QUETTA, July 30: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yousuf has warned officials that the government would not tolerate any ignorance and laxity in fulfilling their responsibilities in conducting free, fair and transparent local body elections in the province.
Speaking at a conference of district coordination officers and DIGs of all the 28 districts of the province held here on Saturday to review the law and order arrangements during the elections, he said: “Government will fulfil its responsibilities for holding local body polls in peaceful atmosphere in the province,” Jam Yousuf said and added that all possible steps would be taken in this regard.
He said that though elections were being held on non-party bases, the role of political parties could not be ruled out. Therefore the authorities would take the leaders of all the political parties into confidence to maintain law and order. He said that they would informed of their responsibilities in this regard and would be requested to cooperate with the government for peaceful elections.
The chief minister directed the district coordination officers and election commission authorities to jointly take steps for restricting the interference in the election process and stopping disturbance during polling.
He said that the administration should deal strictly with those who were found creating law and order situation. He warned that action would be taken against the DCOs if any disturbance occurred in their districts during the polls.
