KARACHI: ATC puts off hearing of convoy attack case

KARACHI, July 30: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday adjourned the hearing of the corps commander’s convoy attack case against 11 workers of the banned Jundullah group till Aug 1, after recording the statements of two prosecution witnesses, sub-inspector Bashir Ahmed and ASI Mohammad Iqbal. The prosecution, represented by Iqtidar Ali Hashmi and Maula Bux Bhatti, has, so far, examined 15 prosecution witnesses.
Ataur Rehman alias Ibrahim, Shahzad Ahmed Bajwah, Yaqoob Saeed, Uzair Ahmed, Shoiab Siddiqui, Danish Inam, Najeebullah, Khurrum Saifullah, Shahzad Mukhtar, Khalid Rao and Adnan Shah alias Tipu are charged with a series of offences, including attack on the motorcade of Lt-Gen Ahsan Saleem Hayat on June 10 last year on the old Clifton bridge, which resulted in the death of six army personnel, three policemen and a passerby.
Mohammed Qasim, Maaz, Shahab, Bilal, Tayyeb, Hammad and Fasih have been declared absconders.
BAIL REJECTED: The district and sessions judge, Agha Rafique Ahmed, rejected the pre-arrest bail application of two accused in an attempt to murder case. Amin Faqir and Sikander Ahmed, booked by the Darakhshan police on June 14, were taken into custody after the judge dismissed their bail applications.
The two accused were booked on the complaint of Abdul Moheen Khan, who alleged that his brother Aimen Khan and his friend Ali Sheko were shot and injured by the accused.
