KARACHI, July 30: The Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) has blacklisted 14 builders and sealed their projects, the KBCA Chief Controller, Brig A.S. Nasir said on the second day of the International Housing Industry Exhibition on Saturday. He said the sealed projects would very soon be auctioned to return the money to citizens, who had invested in these projects.
The KBCA, he said, was aiming at building high-rises in the city but there were elements that were hindering the process. He pointed out that Karachi had 50 per cent share in the construction sector and there was a need to construct more buildings in the city.
He said that builders in Karachi were not taking into account infrastructure while starting new projects, which resulted in problems of water, sewerage and electricity. He said the KBCA wanted to set up four modern townships schemes with the name of ‘New Dubai City’ outside the city. Speaking about the exhibition, Brig Nasir said the participation of a large number of people was a proof that Karachiites wanted their city to become a modern city.—PPI
