NWFP to accept SC verdict on Hasba

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, July 29: NWFP Law Minister Malik Zafar Azam, who had piloted Hasba Bill in the provincial assembly, said on Friday that the MMA-led provincial government would accept as verdict whatever opinion the supreme court forms on the presidential reference on the bill.

Speaking at a news conference at the Frontier House here, the minister said that the criticism against a legally and constitutionally passed law was uncalled far as the draft document had been circulated, debated and discussed at a number of levels in the last two years.

He said the presidential reference against Hasba Bill was eighth in the national history and the Supreme Court was to form its opinion on it after hearing both the sides.

Mr Azam said his government was ready to listen to the reason and if anything pointed out to be against the spirit of the Constitution, teachings of Quran and Sunnah in the bill it would amend it.

He regretted that the provincial opposition’s uproar against the bill and said that none of its members presented a single amendment to the draft law during the two-day debate.
