ISLAMABAD, July 29: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) document called the “Grid Code”.

The code is a document detailing the technical conduct of the NTDC, said an official announcement.

The approval for the Grid Code is a milestone in terms of streamlining the electric power business in Pakistan, it said.

The Grid Code is a requirement for the regulation of electric network supply and delivery system. The document provides necessary rules, standards, guidelines, and procedures for defining and strengthening interface relationship between various power sectors in a restructured environment.

It is aimed at maintaining cohesion of the transmission and distribution networks previously enjoyed by the integrated utility systems prior to restructuring.

The code provides for smooth and effective functioning of the NTDC and other Nepra licensees that are or will be connected to the NTDC’s transmission system.

All users of the electric network supply and delivery system are required under their respective licences to register as code participants with the NTDC as per the provisions of the approved Grid Code. It will be adopted by all code users.

The Grid Code is structured to ensure that the NTDC’s transmission system can be developed, operated, and maintained in an efficient, safe, reliable, economic, and co-ordinated manner.
