SUKKUR, July 29: About 15 villages of the katcha area in Shikarpur district and hundreds of acres of land were inundated when floodwater overflowed the embankments of Begari bund on the midnight of Thursday and Friday.

There was a medium flood situation in the Indus River between Guddu and Sukkur barrages.

Inundated villages are: Wali Mohammad Jatoi, Rehman Jatoi, Sher Ali Jatoi, Hazoor Bux Kalhoro, Ghulam Nabi Kalhoro, Saleh Bhayo, Shafi Mohammad Bhayo, Mohammad Paryal, Abdul Rehman and others.

Crops of cotton and rice over hundreds of acres also came under water.

The villagers have taken shelter on the Begari bund as knee-high water was standing in their villages.

They claimed that no one from the administration or the irrigation department came to help them.

They said crops, households and other valuables were also flushed away with the floodwater.

There was medium flood at the Sukkur barrage but it was not receding and today evening upstream at Sukkur barrage was recorded 467,016 cusecs and downstream was 406,446 cusecs while at the Guddu upstream was 442,962 cusecs and downstream was 414,748 cusecs.
