MANSEHRA, July 29: Over 2,620 candidates have filed nomination papers for the seats of nazims, naib nazims and councillors in the 60 union councils of the district. The number of candidates for the posts of nazim and naib nazim is 516. The number of contestants for councillors (general) seats is 1,019, for seats reserved for women 252, for workers and peasants 557, for women workers and peasants 199 and for minorities’ 8.

In Satbanni union council of Balakot tehsil, Mian Ziaur Rehman has been elected nazim and Sardar Ghulam Rabbai naib nazim unopposed. In Garlat union council, Abida Bibi and Vilayatun Nissa have been elected women councillors unopposed. Rukhtaj Bibi and Surriya Bibi have been elected unopposed as women councillors in the Talhatta union council.

In the 37 union councils of Mansehra tehsil, 294 candidates are contesting for the posts of nazim and naib nazim, 725 for the council membership (general), 174 for women seats, 382 for workers and peasant, 136 for women workers and peasants and five for minorities’ seats.

In the 12 union councils of Balakot tehsil, the number of candidates for nazim and naib nazim is 152, for councillors (general) 180, for women seats 38, for workers and peasants 103 and for women workers and peasants 29.

No-one has filed papers for the seats reserved for minorities in the tehsil.

In the 11 union councils of Ogi tehsil, 70 candidates are contesting for the posts of nazim and naib nazim, 186 for (general) council membership, 40 for women, 72 for workers and peasants, 34 for women workers and peasants and three for the seats reserved for minorities.
