ISLAMABAD, July 29: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reduced type approval application processing fee for foreign manufacturers by 33 per cent and excluded telephone sets and fax machines from the list of equipment requiring type approval.
According to details issued by the PTA, foreign manufacturers would now have to pay $100 instead of $150 as application processing fee for type approval of telecom terminal equipment. The new fee rates would be effective from July 1, 2005.
In order to promote Information and Communication Technology (ICT) culture in the country, fees have also been reduced considerably for other telecom terminal equipments which require type approval.
In the case of locally manufactured cordless telephone sets with range less than 100 metres, Rs5,000 will be charged instead of Rs30,000; and for imported sets $500 will be charged instead of $1,500 for type approval.
Similarly, for fax data modems/wireless LAN cards, the fee has been reduced to Rs500 from Rs20,000. The pay phone sets will be type approved against the fee of Rs5,000 which earlier was Rs50,000.
Moreover, for locally manufactured fixed wireless terminal, the fee will be Rs5,000 against the previous fee of Rs100,000; and in the case of imported terminal, it has been reduced from $5,000 to $100.
