KARACHI, July 29: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) the city may receive light rain on Saturday. A PMD official told Dawn on Friday that so far July had been exceptionally dry this year, adding that for the past 30 years the airport observatory and the Mauripur observatory had recorded an average rainfall of 85.5 millimetres and 92 millimetres, respectively, in the month of July.

He explained that rain during monsoon did not exactly follow a set pattern.

The official recalled that in July 1994 and July 1995 the airport observatory had recorded a rainfall of 256.3 millimetres and 157.9 millimetres respectively.

“The rain received by the city in July 2003 was the heaviest in the last seven years,” he said.

The PMD official said the maximum and minimum temperatures on Friday were 30 degrees Centigrade and 26 degrees Centigrade, respectively and humidity was 71 per cent.

He said that the temperature would range between 30 degrees Centigrade and 32 degrees Centigrade on Saturday.
