KARACHI: Young man killed in accident

KARACHI, July 29: A young man died in a road accident in Surjani Town on Friday.

Police said that Mohammad Waseem, 23, a pedestrian was hit by a speeding minibus of route P-3.

The victim suffered injuries and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said that enraged people of the area tried to set the minibus on fire, but timely police arrival averted the arson attempt.

Police claimed to have arrested the errant driver and impounded the minibus.

INJURED: Around half a dozen persons were wounded when two groups exchanged fire reportedly over pasting of election posters at Banaras Chowk, on Friday.

Police said that an exchange of hot words between the activists of Jamaat-i-Islami and Pakhtun Khua Milli Awami Party led to firing.

Six persons got injured and were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Tension griped the area following the incident. Extra police enforcements were called in to avert any further untoward incident. Some of the injured were identified as Ahsan, Usman, Shah Hasan, Afzal Khan.

CELL PHONES: Bandits took away 40 cellular phones from different parts of the city on Friday, police said.

According to the statistics provided by the police, 17 mobile phones were snatched, 16 were reported stolen.

According to the police record seven cellphones were reported misplaced on Friday.
