No change in UK visa policy for Pakistanis
LAHORE, July 28: Britain has no plan to change its visa policy for Pakistanis in the wake of London bombings. British Deputy High Commissioner Simon Butt stated this during a meeting with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s acting president Sohail Lashari here on Thursday.
He lauded the positive role played by Pakistan in the global war against terrorism and said that Britain would continue to facilitate Pakistani businessmen for the promotion of bilateral trade.
He said that Britain was the third largest investor in Pakistan and would continue facilitating increase in it. He advised the entrepreneurs to send sector specific delegations to Britian for exploring possibilities of launching joint ventures.
The LCCI acting president said that trade between Pakistan and Britian could be increased by removing the anti-dumping duty imposed by the European Union on bed linen and avoiding change in Rules of Origin. British entrepreneurs should also visit Pakistan for investment in information technology, telecommunication, textiles, oil and gas, water and power, food processing, SMEs, engineering, tourism and services sectors.
Speaking at a ceremony held to award Chevening scholarships to 10 successful Pakistani candidates, Simon said no Pakistani was involved in the July 7 London terror attacks..
He lauded the cooperation Islamabad was extending to counter terrorism.
The one-year study scholarship is funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
