LAHORE, July 28: Robbers took away Rs8.9 million from an industrialist and shot at and wounded him on resistance near the Lahore Stock Exchange in the Civil Lines police area on Thursday.
In two other cases outside banks in the city, outlaws took away more than Rs 300,000, while a sum of Rs4.8m was looted in similar fashion in Khanewal on Thursday.
After drawing the amount from a bank on Kashmir Road, Riaz Bhatti was on way to another bank when two men riding a motorcycle without number plate held him hostage.
The miscreants opened fire when the industrialist put up resistance. He got critical wounds while the gangsters made off with the money. The injured man was first taken to a nearby hospital from where he was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital. His condition was stated to be precarious.
DIG Tariq Saleem set up two police teams headed by as many SPs and directed them to investigate the case on priority basis. He also ordered them to question some security guards present close to the scene as to why they did not open fire on the fleeing dacoits.
In a similar case, Majeed Ahmad drew Rs280,000 from a bank and was on way back home when three gun-toting men held him up in Naseerabad and took away the money.
In yet another case, Imran who drew Rs30,000 from a bank in Gulberg was looted by two gunmen.
Two salesmen Kashif and Inam of a cell phone company were deprived of cash and calling cards worth Rs150,000 in Gulshan-e-Ravi.
Ehsan and his wife were on way home when two armed men looted cash and gold jewellery worth Rs100,000 from them on Amir Road in Shadbagh. Two robbers stormed into the house of Muhammad Ilyas in Mughalpura and made off with Rs50,000.
