Tariq maintains lead: Hole-in-one by Jampanoi
KARACHI, July 27: Despite a poor second round of 77, Pakistan’s Tariq Mahmood maintained one-stroke lead on the second day of CISM World Military golf championship at Karachi Golf Club on Wednesday. After playing a superb round of one under 71 on the opening day, Tariq occupied the top spot with a total gross score of 148 in the men’s individual competition.
Close on Tariq’s heels was South African Loubser who shot four-over-par 76 to end with an aggregate of 149, just one shot behind the leader. Canada’s Jensen retained his hold on the third spot with a total score of 150 and Healy of Ireland was in fourth place with rounds of 73 and 80 for an aggregate total of 153.
Strong wind created some problems for the golfers and they had difficulty in controlling. The South African with a combined score of 622 is poised to capture the team title having gained seven-stroke lead over Pakistan and Canada who are tied for the second place with 629.
In the women’s individual competition, Dunbar and Macisaac from Canada secured first and second spots with a total score of 181 and 184. Third place was captured by Thanyasiri from Thailand with a total score of 195.
However, the highlight of the second day was hole-in-one by Maj. Gen. Jampanoi of Thailand who achieved the feat on 11th hole of yellow course.
